Draper's & Damon's | Cross-Functional Collaboration & Process Improvement

The Challenge

While reviewing incoming product photography, I noticed recurring inconsistencies in lighting, exposure, and color accuracy between photography sessions. Although the images met production standards individually, the variations created additional work once they reached post-production.

The inconsistencies resulted in:

  • Additional color correction and retouching

  • Longer post-production turnaround times

  • Inconsistent product presentation across catalogs and e-commerce channels

  • Additional review cycles and revisions

Although lighting setup fell outside my formal responsibilities as a Digital Imaging Specialist, I recognized that addressing the issue during image capture could improve efficiency throughout the production workflow for both the photography and retouching teams.

The Goal

Improve image consistency before assets reached post-production by standardizing lighting and color management practices.

  • Increase color accuracy at the point of capture.

  • Reduce unnecessary color correction and retouching.

  • Create repeatable processes that supported consistent results across photographers, product categories, and photo shoots.

The Solution

Rather than continuing to correct the inconsistencies in post-production, I worked directly with the photographers to identify the factors contributing to variations in lighting, exposure, and color accuracy between shoots.

Together, we reviewed the capture workflow and implemented more standardized lighting and color-management practices to improve consistency before images entered post-production. By addressing the issue at its source, we reduced the need for downstream corrections while creating a more repeatable process across product categories and photography sessions.

This collaborative approach strengthened communication between photography and post-production, ensuring both teams worked toward the same quality standards while improving overall production efficiency.

The Outcome

Improved Image Consistency
Standardized lighting and color-management practices produced more consistent product photography across multiple photo shoots, reducing variations before images reached post-production.

Increased Production Efficiency
By addressing inconsistencies at the point of capture, the team reduced the amount of corrective retouching required, allowing post-production to focus on higher-value image refinements.

Stronger Cross-Functional Collaboration
Closer collaboration between photography and post-production created a shared approach to image quality, improving communication and establishing more consistent production standards.

More Scalable Production Workflows
The standardized capture process provided a repeatable foundation that supported consistent results across product categories while helping production teams work more efficiently.

Business Impact

By improving consistency at the point of capture, I helped streamline the production workflow, reduce downstream corrections, and create a more reliable process for delivering high-quality product imagery.
